News. House Financial Services Committee Chair French Hill (R-Ark.) warned the Senate Friday that his chamber was not prepared to support the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act – a significant escalation of his chamber’s effort to avoid getting rolled on housing policy.
In a statement first provided to Punchbowl News, Hill said lawmakers may need to go to conference to resolve their differences on legislation to deregulate housing development. It’s the first time the Arkansas Republican has made that threat since becoming chair.
“There are members in the House whose provisions and views were not accounted for in the current iteration of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act,” Hill said. The chair added he was “optimistic” that those concerns could be addressed. Absent that, Hill said, “further negotiations, including a possible conference, may be needed.”
