Updated. Under bipartisan pressure, the Defense Department said Wednesday it has released $400 million approved by Congress to support Ukraine in its war with Russia. 

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told lawmakers during a House Armed Services Committee hearing that those funds have “been released” as of Tuesday.

Acting Pentagon Comptroller Jay Hurst said how quickly the money, which will be put on contract, makes it to Ukraine depends on what defense equipment is purchased.
