NRSC, Thune rally around Mike Rogers in Michigan

Seeking to avoid a divisive primary in a key battleground state, the NRSC and Senate GOP leaders are backing former Rep. Mike Rogers’ (R-Mich.) bid for the open Senate seat in Michigan.

Rogers on Monday launched his bid to fill the vacancy created by Sen. Gary Peters’ (D-Mich.) upcoming retirement. Senate Majority Leader John Thune and NRSC Chair Tim Scott endorsed Rogers instantaneously, seeking to head off any potential challengers in a Republican primary. Failed 2022 gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon had been floated as a potential Republican Senate candidate.
