McCarthy punts on whether he’d pass a clean stopgap bill

Speaker Kevin McCarthy ducked and dodged today on whether he would put a clean stopgap funding bill on the floor if the Senate passes it this week.

There are a few ways to look at this. McCarthy is going to be very careful in talking about the Senate’s bill until it passes. But he did not close the door on putting it on the floor – which is a positive sign in averting a shutdown.
