How do you solve a problem like SALT?

House Ways and Means Committee Chair Jason Smith (R-Mo.) told us this week that reaching a deal for relief from the cap on deducting state and local taxes is going to be the “easiest” issue to solve in tax talks. Maybe that speaks to the bigger problems that one big, wide-ranging reconciliation package also faces. Either way, the jury is still out on how easy it will be to strike a SALT agreement.
