The congressional effort to enact sweeping changes to the financial system for the sake of the crypto industry has reached the face-melting stage.
As we scooped this afternoon, the Senate Agriculture Committee will hold a markup of crypto market structure legislation on Thursday, Jan. 15.
Sound familiar? It should! That’s the same day set by the Senate Banking Committee to mark up its portion of the same bill. The two panels split their oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and Securities and Exchange Commission, respectively.
The decision to plant a flag on a markup date before bipartisan agreement has been secured is as much a leap of faith for Ag Chair John Boozman (R-Ark.) as it was for Banking Chair Tim Scott (R-S.C.). Boozman acknowledged the challenge in an interview Wednesday.
