Senate Majority Leader John Thune filed cloture on the GENIUS Act Monday afternoon, setting up votes later this week on the stablecoin legislation and final passage as early as next week.
Thune’s maneuver is a key step toward ending the procedural wrangling that delayed the bill’s passage last week. A bipartisan set of senators, including Sens. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) have been pressing for amendment votes that could have reshaped the bill.
