House GOP leaders sound out mods on health care

News: House Majority Leader Steve Scalise is meeting with a key group of Republican moderates on Tuesday to discuss health care options, according to multiple sources familiar with the plans.

Scalise’s huddle is with the Republican Governance Group — RG2 as it is known inside the Capitol — which includes many of the House Republicans pushing for an extension of the enhanced Obamacare subsidies that expire Dec. 31.

The meeting is expected to cover different options for lowering health care costs. The House GOP leadership is discussing its own health care proposal amid pressure from rank-and-file members for a vote this month.

There’s still significant resistance within the House Republican Conference to an extension of the Obamacare tax credits. But there’s broad support among Republicans for some other potential changes, like expanding health savings accounts.
