Thune wins Senate GOP leader race on the second ballot

John Randolph Thune is your new Senate majority leader.

The 63-year-old South Dakota Republican narrowly defeated Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) to succeed Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is stepping down from leadership after a historic, 18-year run.
