Censorship debate falls along party lines

Republicans and Democrats agree that free speech is under threat in America. But they don’t agree on what that threat looks like and certainly don’t seem close to any bipartisan legislative solutions.

That was the takeaway from a Senate Commerce Committee Wednesday. GOP senators attacked the Biden administration for alleged censorship of online speech during the Covid-19 pandemic and regarding elections. Democrats focused on Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr for the Jimmy Kimmel controversy.
