Trump wants to go big on spectrum

President Donald Trump on Tuesday threw his support behind making a significant amount of spectrum commercially available through the reconciliation bill, a key priority for the wireless industry.

The statement also marks a win for Senate Commerce Committee Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and other Republicans who want to use the party-line legislation to go as big as possible on the issue.

Some military hawks have expressed concern about making spectrum controlled by the national security community available. If those concerns are heeded, it could limit the amount of airwaves available for auction.
