Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday declined to say President Donald Trump would not sue or have the next chair of the Federal Reserve criminally investigated if the president disagrees with him on interest rate policy.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) asked Bessent to commit that Fed nominee Kevin Warsh “will not be sued, will not be investigated by the Department of Justice if he doesn’t cut interest rates exactly the way that Donald Trump.”
Bessent responded: “That is up to the president.”
