House Ways and Means Committee Chair Jason Smith (R-Mo.) is drawing a new red line on crypto tax.
Smith told reporters he will only move forward with a bill setting tax rules for digital assets if Democrats get on board. The Missouri Republican told us last week that the project was “at the 1-yard line” and a markup would happen “very soon.”
“It has to be bipartisan or I have no desire to move it,” Smith said. He added that “we’ll see” if he’d release any proposal at all if Democrats are opposed.
