SCOTUS sets Oct. 15 hearing in Louisiana redistricting case

Redistricting update. The Supreme Court set Oct. 15 as the date when it will hear new arguments on a case challenging Louisiana’s congressional map.

The Supreme Court initially heard the case last term, but it later asked for involved parties to file additional briefs.

The question SCOTUS seeks to answer: could a state’s application of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (which prohibits racial discrimination) run afoul of the 14th or 15th Amendments?

A broad ruling could have a massive impact on majority-minority districts across the country. If the Supreme Court rules quickly, some states, such as Louisiana, could scramble to redraw in time for the midterms.

The Airwaves: Nate Morris, a right-wing entrepreneur running in the Kentucky Senate election, is up with a new ad tying former Attorney General Daniel Cameron and Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

The spot leads off by slamming McConnell for opposing Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination to lead HHS.

“Andy Barr and Daniel Cameron are Mitch’s boys,” the ad’s narrator says, depicting the two GOP primary candidates in McConnell’s suit pocket.

“I’ll fight to ban doctors from prescribing hormone therapy to our kids, and I’ll stand with Trump to remove deadly toxins and chemicals from our food and water,” Morris says in the ad.

Portraying Cameron and Barr as McConnell allies has been a consistent theme in Morris’ campaign messaging.
