  • REPORTER

    Washington, D.C. / Baltimore Area On-site

    Job Description

    Punchbowl News is hiring an experienced congressional reporter to join our editorial team.

     

    The ideal candidate will want to completely own coverage of the power, people and politics driving Capitol Hill. We’re looking for someone who wants to break news on this incredibly powerful niche every day.

    Responsibilities:

    • This reporter will file several dispatches each week for our flagship newsletters, Punchbowl News AM, Midday and PM. They also will be responsible for breaking news on the beat.
    • Punchbowl News is thinking expansively about new and inventive ways to cover the shifting power dynamics on Capitol Hill in the upcoming Congress, and this reporter will play a leading role in our efforts.
    • This reporter will be willing to participate in, and potentially host, live newsmaker events and be comfortable representing Punchbowl News on TV and radio.

    Qualifications:

    • Familiarity with the Capitol, Congress and national politics is a must.
    • At least two years of congressional reporting experience preferred.
    • Impeccable work ethic is crucial.
    • Experience writing clean, concise copy.
    • A proven track record in breaking news.

  • MEDIA MANAGER

    Job Description

    Punchbowl News is a media start-up focused on power, people and politics in Washington, D.C.

     

    Punchbowl News is hiring a media manager to handle media outreach and booking for our growing events and conference business. The ideal candidate would thrive in a fast-paced work environment and have the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities.

    Responsibilities

    • Research ideas for Punchbowl News editorial events and conferences.
    • Work closely with Punchbowl News CEO on outreach and tracking panelists.
    • Monitor and circulate breaking news of Punchbowl News to outside media outlets.
    • Cultivate and manage relationships with other news outlets.
    • Develop earned media strategy for Punchbowl News.

    Qualifications

    • 3-5 years of experience working in a fast-paced newsroom or agency.
    • Prior experience booking appearances and responding to media inquiries.
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
    • Strong attention to detail.

  • Editorial Web Producer

    Washington, D.C. / Baltimore Area On-site — Open to remote

    Job Description

    Punchbowl News is a news content company led by Anna Palmer, Jake Sherman, John Bresnahan and Rachel Schindler focused on power, people and politics in Washington. We are looking for an editorial web producer to join our Washington-based news team.

     

    Punchbowl News’ primary focus is breaking news about power, the nation’s political leadership and explaining to our audience of political junkies how Washington works. We produce (at least) three newsletters each day, a daily podcast, dozens of events and more. Punchbowl News’ theory is that power in Washington emanates from the Capitol — and that’s the center of our focus.

     

    Our audience includes members of Congress, high-ranking officials in the Biden administration, lobbyists, top-level reporters, media executives, Wall Streeters, tech and Hollywood executives and everyday political fans.

    About the job: 

    We are looking for a full-time editorial web producer to help us with our daily newsletters on Punchbowl News AM and Midday. The hours for this position are 5 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.

     

    The job includes helping us assemble, edit and produce the newsletter two times each day. The editorial web producer will also assist with our other products: special edition newsletters, marketing communications, podcasts, videos, social media posts and live events.

    Qualifications:

    • Familiarity with Congress and national politics is a must. Impeccable work ethic is crucial. The ideal candidate is able to write quickly and copy edit.
    • A familiarity with AP Style and strong attention to detail is essential.
    • The job is based in Washington, D.C., but we are open to candidates from everywhere. Punchbowl News is committed to building a diverse staff.

    Work Experience:

    • Two-plus years experience in a newsroom is preferred but not required.
    • An understanding of and ability to navigate content management systems is also a plus.
