  • Financial Services Reporter

    Washington, D.C.

     

    Punchbowl News is a news company founded by Anna Palmer, Jake Sherman, John Bresnahan and Rachel Schindler focused on power, people and politics in Washington. 

     

    The Job: Punchbowl News is looking for an experienced Financial Services Reporter to join our growing editorial team. The best person for this job has extensive financial and economic reporting experience, is sourced across Washington and New York – from Capitol Hill and K Street to Wall Street – and will thrive in a startup-oriented newsroom. 

     

    Financial institutions play an outsized role in the power, people and politics of Washington. Hedge fund titans and savvy bankers spend tens of millions of dollars on campaigns across the country every year. They have the ear of congressional leadership. Punchbowl News is hiring another reporter to write with authority about these figures and chronicle what they are trying to do in Washington.

     

    The ideal candidate will work closely with Brendan Pedersen, co-author of The Vault, and the rest of the editorial team to own coverage of the power, people and politics in the financial services world. We’re seeking a reporter who is fluent in the broad swath of policy considered by the House Financial Services and Senate Banking committees, as well as related issues before finance, trade, and agriculture panels. Experience with crypto policy, securities regulation and international finance is a plus.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • File several dispatches each week for our flagship newsletters: Punchbowl News AM, Midday and PM
    • Co-anchor a new financial services-focused product each week
    • Break market-moving news and produce thought-provoking enterprise and analysis 
    • Host live newsmaker events
    • Represent Punchbowl News on television, radio and other promotional activities 

     

    Qualifications:

    • Washington and Capitol Hill reporting experience
    • A deep understanding of financial services policy conversations driving Washington, Wall Street and the power players in the industry
    • Three or more years of reporting experience 
    • Ability to write clean, concise copy
    • A record of breaking news and high-value enterprise

  • Policy Editor

    Washington, D.C.

     

    Punchbowl News is a news company founded by Anna Palmer, Jake Sherman, John Bresnahan and Rachel Schindler focused on power, people and politics in Washington. 

     

    The Job: Punchbowl News is looking for an experienced Policy Editor to join our growing editorial team. The best person for this job has extensive editing experience, expert knowledge of the policy fights driving Washington and an ability to thrive in a startup-oriented newsroom. 

     

    We’re looking for someone with years of experience covering Capitol Hill and editing related coverage. This person is highly skilled at editing a range of policy verticals and will be adept at ensuring it is delivered in our signature Punchbowl News writing and reporting style. This is a hugely important role in our expanding newsroom and the best candidate will be well organized, detail oriented and self-starting with an ability to quickly and concisely produce clean copy on deadline. 

     

    Responsibilities

    • Manage daily policy coverage, helping lead a team of high-energy reporters as they break news, write high-value enterprise and deliver long-term trend analysis 
    • Ensure Punchbowl News’ policy coverage is the essential read in Washington and beyond 
    • Work closely with the managing editor to oversee daily, weekly and monthly policy reporting in collaboration with our leadership coverage
    • Oversee quarterly policy-focused editorial projects and events 
    • Play a key role in shaping our long-term editorial expansion

     

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years of reporting experience, including at least two years editing experience
    • Strong familiarity with Punchbowl News and its reporting style: informative yet punchy, authoritative yet conversational
    • Firm grasp of AP style 
    • Self-starter, highly organized 
    • Experience collaborating across newsrooms 
    • Ability to manage multiple editorial projects at a time 
    • Financial services reporting or editing experience a plus
