Jim Banks open to changes to chips export provision

Sen. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) said he expects to make changes to his proposal to put restrictions on the sale of AI chips abroad, amid fierce opposition to his legislation from the tech industry.

“I'm open to conversations and ideas to make the language stronger,” Banks said of potential changes to the so-called GAIN AI Act. The proposal is included in the Senate’s annual defense policy bill. It seeks to ensure companies like Nvidia serve U.S. customers before buyers in China.
