Rep. Jay Obernolte (R-Calif.) signaled openness Monday to letting states pursue some of their traditional roles in protecting consumers, even as he tries to create uniform national policies on artificial intelligence.
Obernolte’s comments follow failed efforts from House Republican leadership to preempt states on AI via the annual defense policy bill, as well as President Donald Trump’s new threats to sue states and remove broadband funds over their “onerous” AI laws.
