Leading Republican defense hawks in both chambers have seemingly closed the book on their investigations into the “double tap” strike of a suspected Venezuelan drug boat in the Caribbean.
Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) indicated Thursday afternoon that his effort to “conduct thorough oversight” into the Sept. 2 operation has run its course.
“Today, I am satisfied with all the information I have received on this matter,” Wicker said in a statement, referencing “various briefings” by officials. “I have seen no evidence of war crimes. The fact is that our military is asked to make incredibly difficult decisions.”
