Republicans and Democrats agree on one thing about Venezuela: They aren’t clear what President Donald Trump’s endgame is for the regime of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. But that’s where the consensus ends.
Many in the GOP are supportive of what they think the White House actually wants to do: Topple Maduro. They just wish the Trump administration would cop to that publicly. Democrats are apoplectic at the prospect of another open-ended war and think their Republican colleagues should demand public clarity.
