President Donald Trump’s plan to crack down on defense contractors by limiting their ability to financially reward shareholders and executives has sent shockwaves through the military industrial base. The move is also raising questions about how exactly it would work.
The industry strategy at this point is to stay publicly quiet while companies digest the executive order released late Wednesday and as members of Congress start to weigh in.
The major defense contractors who work with the Pentagon — like Boeing, RTX and General Dynamics — have so far declined to comment, or in the case of Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, have not responded to requests for comment.
Members of Congress have been less tight-lipped.
