The House Foreign Affairs Committee is poised to advance a bill Wednesday that has put the panel’s chair in direct conflict with the White House’s most high-profile artificial intelligence adviser.
The committee is currently marking up the AI Overwatch Act, a bill that would allow Congress to block sales of AI chips to U.S. adversaries like China. The legislation has split the MAGA base and has drawn a line between its sponsor, HFAC Chair Brian Mast (R-Fla.), and White House AI Czar David Sacks, who opposes the bill.
