Tech: Mast’s chips bill has uphill climb

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Brian Mast (R-Fla.) will need to address White House concerns over his proposal to rein in artificial intelligence chips exports before it will be considered for a floor vote, according to a senior House GOP aide.

White House AI Czar David Sacks’ criticism of Mast’s AI Overwatch Act has put the Republican and his fellow China hawks at odds with an influential adviser to President Donald Trump, while exposing deep tensions within the party over the government’s role in regulating a booming technology.
