Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk sought to breathe life into a long-stalled congressional push to slap sanctions on Russia as he made the rounds on Capitol Hill this week.
Stefanchuk, speaking to reporters Friday through an interpreter, said he underscored to Speaker Mike Johnson and other lawmakers that sanctions are a tool that is “extremely important when we are talking about ending this war” with Russia, which will enter its fifth year later this month.
But Stefanchuk said he also used his face time with Johnson and other members to discuss a broad range of avenues to aid Kyiv, including through financial support and additional weapons systems.
