House Ways and Means Committee Chair Jason Smith (R-Mo.) remains reconciliation 2.0’s most vocal skeptic. But, as we scooped, Smith told attendees at a fundraiser last week that if it happens, tax will be part of the package.

Vault: House GOP has a lot of ideas for reconciliation

Plenty of Republicans on Capitol Hill viewed another reconciliation bill as a pipe dream just a couple of weeks ago.

But the pressure to fund ICE and potentially other parts of the Department of Homeland Security, to do something to push voter ID requirements and to fund the Iran war is injecting new urgency into the effort. Republicans seem to be set on trying.
