Speaker Mike Johnson said he doesn’t want to allow amendments to a renewal of the nation’s foreign surveillance law because it would jeopardize passage.
“It’s going to be a clean extension,” Johnson said Tuesday morning. “If we put amendments on it, it jeopardizes its passage and it’s far too important.”
This is a critical few days as House Republican leadership tries to clear the way for an 18-month renewal of FISA Section 702, which the White House has requested. Several lawmakers have demanded changes to the law. And others, like Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), want the SAVE America Act attached to the legislation, which GOP leadership is firmly against.
