Leading Pentagon officials touted their planned surge in missile funding Tuesday during the formal rollout of the military’s $1.5 trillion FY2027 budget request — but they acknowledged that there “could certainly be overlap” between it and a forthcoming Iran war supplemental.
In a briefing at the Pentagon, Acting DOD Comptroller Jay Hurst underscored the “massive ramp up” the military is seeking in weapons such as the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense anti-ballistic missile system and Patriot interceptor. Both of those have been leveraged in the Middle East.
Hurst said Pentagon officials would hold discussions with the White House and leading lawmakers in Congress about revising a war funding package if there is overlap between the budget and whatever is folded into a future supplemental request for munitions.
