As the government shutdown enters its third week, Thune is shaking things up with a Thursday vote on the full-year FY2026 Defense Department funding bill.

Get ready for a vote-a-rama

The Senate is on track to kick off a marathon series of amendment votes for Republicans’ ICE and Border Patrol budget blueprint as soon as Wednesday night, followed by final adoption.

The exact timing remains unclear and will depend on whether Senate Democrats decide to yield back some of their debate time. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer vowed Democrats would offer “lots of amendments” but said Senate Majority Leader John Thune hadn’t presented a time agreement to kick off votes yet.
