A proposed new Florida congressional map could net House Republicans as many as four new districts in the Sunshine State, the latest – but not last – chapter of the brutal national redistricting fight.
Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis released the long-awaited redraw just one day before Florida state legislators convene in Tallahassee for a special session on redistricting. This DeSantis proposal could transform a Florida delegation that’s currently 20 Republicans and eight Democrats into a 24R-4D split.
DeSantis’ office released a graphic indicating the map will create four new GOP seats. But there’s no partisan voting data, or even county or city markers on that image, so everyone is working with the broad outlines of the proposed new configuration.
