SEDONA, Ariz. — Democrats are increasingly concerned President Donald Trump — undeterred by the ongoing Iran war — will move for regime change in Cuba next.
In interviews with half a dozen lawmakers on the sidelines of the McCain Institute’s Sedona Forum, lawmakers fear Trump sees toppling adversarial regimes as a core part of his legacy and is only emboldened as Republicans in Congress have not interceded amid his actions in Venezuela and Iran.
“I just can’t predict if he has in his mind that he is the reincarnation of Genghis Khan, Napoleon and Alexander the Great — and he’s going to throw his military weight around and reshape the world,” Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) said. “Cuba is a perfectly logical place to jump in and grab while the grabbing is good.”
