House Armed Services Committee Chair Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) said the forthcoming defense policy bill will add “guardrails” to further restrict the Pentagon from withdrawing U.S. forces from Europe.
The move comes in the face of bipartisan Hill uproar over the Pentagon’s now scuttled plans to cancel an Army deployment to Poland. The Defense Department announced this week it was instead delaying the rotation.
“I just want to make sure that going forward, we have guardrails that make sure that that posture stays at least at a floor that we have put in statute and if everybody intentionally violates that, there’s consequences,” Rogers told reporters.
