How Wall Street spent its lobbying dollars

It’s fair to say that 2023 was a rocky year in Washington for the financial services sector. Lobbyists got their due.

Where to start? We flirted with a banking crisis in March. The Senate Banking Committee marked up legislation for the first time in years, and the House Financial Services Committee churned out bills by the dozen. Just last month, CEOs leading some of the world’s largest banks trudged into town for another semiannual grilling.

By our count, the nation’s most prominent banks and industry groups listed here spent more than $35 million on lobbying in 2023, working over Congress on these issues and beyond.
