Dick Durbin swipe fee hearing remains in limbo

Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) isn’t sure whether he has the votes to subpoena a quartet of executives representing the aviation and payments industry and grill them on credit card competition.

That’s what the majority whip told us this week when we checked in on credit card competition. Durbin was supposed to host a CEO hearing on the matter earlier this month that was punted after representatives for Visa, Mastercard, American Airlines and United Airlines declined to play ball, as we scooped back in March.

We asked Durbin whether he had the votes to subpoena those CEOs. He replied: “I don’t know.”
