The Senate voted 51-49 to advance Pete Hegseth’s nomination to serve as defense secretary, setting up a Friday night confirmation vote.

Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) joined all Democrats in voting against the embattled nominee. Hegseth is President Donald Trump’s first Cabinet nominee to draw GOP opposition on the floor.
