The crisis in Minnesota over President Donald Trump’s harsh immigration crackdown – and what it means in Washington and beyond – is the dominant political issue nationally.
The Senate is scheduled to convene at 3 p.m. for a brief session, but we don’t expect much action. The Senate will formally receive the six-bill FY2026 minibus funding package from the House, but Senate GOP leaders won’t be able to file cloture on it until Tuesday.
That sets up an initial vote for Thursday. Senate Democrats have vowed to block the funding package — which includes funding for the Department of Homeland Security — raising the possibility of a government shutdown beginning Friday.
