Stefanik eyes run for N.Y. governor

News: Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) is considering a run for governor of New York, according to sources close to the matter.

If she gets in, Stefanik would shake up the race for the GOP nomination in a major way. Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) has been openly eyeing a run, as has Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County executive.

A recent Marist poll shows that Gov. Kathy Hochul is vulnerable. Her approval rating is 39%. And 57% of those polled said they don’t want Hochul to run for reelection.
