New York Republicans selected local legislator Mazi Melesa Pilip as the party’s nominee in the February special election to fill the vacant 3rd District seat. Pilip, an Ethiopian immigrant who serves on the Nassau County Legislature, will face off against former Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.).
