President Donald Trump’s ambitious new vision for a “Golden Fleet” of Navy “Trump-class” battleships is already running into significant challenges on Capitol Hill.
In testimony over the past month, lawmakers raised serious concerns about the lack of details and the proposed cost for the program.
“It’s concerning that the Navy’s asking the committee for funding without the full understanding of what the final concept or true construction schedule will look like,” Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.), ranking member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, said in May.
