A handful of Senate Republicans are dipping their toes into giving a formal congressional authorization for using military force against Iran, even as prospects for considering additional Pentagon spending remain murky.
What’s clear from Republicans leaving lunches Tuesday is the looming second reconciliation package will stay narrow — “anorexic-like skinny” in the words of Senate Majority Leader John Thune — and hopes for Iran supplemental funds may hinge on GOP appetite for a future, additional party-line spending push.
“I think we’re going to do a very, very skinny reconciliation,” Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) said when asked about an Iran supplemental.
