Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is in Kentucky today to headline a campaign event with Ed Gallrein — an unusual appearance that the Pentagon insists is not in violation of federal law restricting political activities.
The Monday afternoon rally, hosted by America First Works, is meant to bolster Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL officer, in his bid to unseat Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) a day before the primary election.
“Secretary Hegseth is attending this event in his personal capacity,” Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said in a statement. “No taxpayer dollars will be used to facilitate his visit.”
