Defense: Pentagon goes big for drones

Military leaders want to make a huge investment in drones as part of their FY2027 budget request. So large, in fact, that they want to divert some 15% of the $350 billion they’re seeking in defense reconciliation spending toward the technology.

Initial budget documents posted by the Pentagon show that the so-called Defense Autonomous Warfare Group would get nearly $54.6 billion in research and development funding next fiscal year. The vast majority of which would come from reconciliation rather than the $1.15 trillion base budget request.
