GOP leaders weigh in on paying the troops

Speaker Mike Johnson said Tuesday he’s “certainly open” to a standalone bill to ensure military service members get paid during a government shutdown.

But Senate Majority Leader John Thune said such a measure wasn’t necessary. The top Senate Republican said the onus is still on Democrats to support the House GOP’s Nov. 21 funding bill and “get the government open.”
