We briefed you on the early highlights from Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Wednesday morning in our Midday edition.
So what’s the best of the rest? Rubio summarily rejected the worst-case foreign policy impacts stemming from the Trump administration’s capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, defended President Donald Trump’s approach to NATO and Greenland and discussed what regime change in Iran could look like.
Rubio, under questioning from Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ranking Member Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), stressed “we do” benefit from the NATO alliance but that further European investments in defense remain critical.
“NATO needs to be reimagined,” Rubio said. “This president just complains about it louder than other presidents.”
