Senate Republicans slam Hegseth for ‘inadequate’ Pentagon budget

Top Senate Republicans confronted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday about the Pentagon’s FY2026 budget request, arguing it’s insufficient to meet the threats the United States faces around the world.

“What we have in front of us is an inadequate budget request, with precious little detail,” Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) told Hegseth at his annual budget hearing.
