Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) has released one of his holds on a military promotion after his concerns were assuaged about comments the nominee made during an appearance on a podcast the senator said could be “anti-Semitic and racist.”
Wyden dropped his hold on Marine Corps Col. Thomas Siverts to be brigadier general after he “made clear that the ideologies of anti-Semitism and racism are antithetical not only to the values of the Marine Corps, but to who he is too,” according to a notice in the Congressional Record.
Military promotions are typically moved by unanimous consent in en bloc packages, meaning any one senator could effectively single out a nominee and block them indefinitely.
