CFPB breaks glass on Google’s payments business

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau intends to formally supervise Google’s payments operations, according to an order published by the agency Friday afternoon.

The CFPB has been weighing this move for some time. But the order, which you can read here, is a significant step for outgoing Director Rohit Chopra.

“There is reasonable cause to determine that Google has engaged in conduct that poses risks to consumers,” the order states.
