The Vault: Committees set dates for reconciliation markups

Committees set dates for reconciliation markups

News: House committees are starting to mark the calendar with dates they plan to hold reconciliation markups, which are a major step forward for President Donald Trump’s legislative agenda.

The House GOP leadership is asking many of the committees tasked with cutting or boosting spending for programs under their jurisdiction to hold markups the first week after recess. Committees with more complicated parts of the bill to write — like the Energy and Commerce, Agriculture and Ways and Means panels — are being given an extra week in leadership’s timeline, as we wrote in AM.
