Cotton, McConnell press FTC, DOJ on antitrust leaks

First in The Vault: A group of Republican lawmakers led by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell urged the inspectors general at the Federal Trade Commission and Justice Department to investigate the government for “systematic” leaks to Bloomberg News.

In a letter dated Wednesday, the senators point to twelve instances since 2023 when Bloomberg broke stories about antitrust authorities like the FTC and Justice Department preparing to take legal action against major players.

“These leaks appear to be simply one more instance of this administration weaponizing the administrative state against politically disfavored opponents and critics,” the lawmakers wrote.
