Federal agencies announce wider crackdown on ‘junk fees’

The Biden administration is moving ahead with new regulatory actions to crack down on extraneous consumer charges in the financial services sector and beyond.

Two federal agencies announced separate new policies intended to eliminate what the White House calls “junk fees,” an umbrella term for hidden or surprise costs that crop up while trying to buy tickets for The Eras Tour, for instance.
