Vault: Gallego targets ‘buy, borrow, die’ tax maneuver

First in the Vault. Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) will introduce a bill this week that’s aimed at cracking down on what Democrats call the “buy, borrow, die” approach to avoiding taxes.

Gallego’s bill would change the tax treatment of certain loans from high net-worth individuals. The bill is just one form of a wealth tax circulating on Capitol Hill in recent weeks, but Gallego’s proposal is notable given his White House aspirations.
