The Vault: Greer says it’s ‘not a trade war’

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told the Senate Finance Committee today that the Trump administration was prepared to negotiate with international partners who are willing to pursue trade “reciprocity.”

Greer navigated sharp questioning from Democrats and plenty of anxiety for Republicans. At one point, he disputed whether a trade war was underway. “This is not a trade war,” Greer said to Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.). “Most countries have said they're not going to retaliate.”
